Cream cheese adds a richness to the dough, and orange zest offers a sophisticated little twist to this classic cookie. Patricia recommends throwing in some walnuts if you're feeling extra. Ingredients:
1 (3 oz) Package cream cheese, room temperature
16 Tbsp. (2 sticks) unsalted butter (or regular), room temperature
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups all –purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 (12 oz.) package semisweet chocolate chips
2 tsp. grated orange zest
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In the large bowl of an electric mixer, beat cream cheese, butter, and sugar
on high speed until well blended.
3. Beat in eggs and vanilla until smooth.
4. Reduce speed to low; beat in flour and salt until just combined.
5. Stir in chocolate chips and orange zest.
6. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets; space dough
about 1 inch apart.
7. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until cookies are lightly browned around the
edges.
8. With a spatula, transfer to racks to cool completely;
9. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
10. Makes about 54 cookies
