The Great Race Needs YOU! To Volunteer

medal from last year

It’s that time of the year already! Time for hundreds, nay, thousands, of runners to pound the pavement of our streets once more. With that many runners, and with 6 different races, you can imagine this is an all hands on deck type of situation. Race organizers rely heavily on the over 300 volunteers it takes to ensure a smooth race day.

Volunteers are needed for variety of tasks, such as: handing out registration packets, operating check points along the routes, and working water stations. Individuals, adults, friends, family members, clubs, and students can volunteer. Students can even earn needed community service hours! Volunteers will receive an exclusive race shirt as a token of appreciation. The minimum age requirement to volunteer without an adult is 14.

We’d like to thank our neighbor over on Marlies, Jodi, for bringing this opportunity to our attention, and for all the amazing work she does as the Volunteer Manager for this race series. If you have any volunteer related questions you can reach her at To sign up to volunteer simply visit the Great Race website.

We also have the direct link to register on our website. If you are unable to volunteer in an official capacity, we do hope you will be able to stand along the race route and cheer on runners as they pass!

The 39th Annual Great Race will take place on Saturday, April 13th this year. As has become our tradition, April’s edition of the Fountainwood Forum will have a break down of race times and street closures to prepare you for the influx of traffic to our neighborhood (the highlighted link is to last years article. The date will of course be different, but all other information should be the same). Thinking of running it yourself? There is still time to register! Visit the website and pick your distance. We’ll see you on the course!
